LOCAL BEEKEEPER BRINGS BUZZ TO EAST TAME BUSINESS PARK, HYDE

Northern Trust Company Ltd.’s East Tame Business Park in Hyde has welcomed its first beehives, thanks to local beekeeper James of Matley Honey Co. This marks James’ first personal apiary, and he is excited to begin his beekeeping journey on the site.
James explained, “My initial goal is simply to get the colonies established and safely through their first winter. From there, I hope to gain experience, expand my knowledge of beekeeping and apiary management, and see how the colonies thrive.”
James has also been documenting his journey on the Matley Honey Co Facebook page. Although he admits that sharing publicly is a little outside of his comfort zone, he hopes the videos will act as a learning tool and a lasting record.
James continued “It’s great to be able to look back at the videos as a kind of notebook to track progress – and one day, it will be something my children and their children can look back on too.”
Looking ahead, James hopes that if the colonies flourish, there may be opportunities for expansion and wider community engagement. This could include corporate hive sponsorships, company-branded honey, and even bespoke beekeeping experiences for local supporters.
For now, the bees are settling into their new home at East Tame Business Park, where they will play an important role in supporting biodiversity and the local environment.
