In 2000 a dedicated development division of Northern Trust was created to undertake commercial property development for retention in the Northern Trust portfolio.
Over 1.5m sq ft of the property portfolio has been developed or is under construction by the development division in over 30 locations.
The property development division has extensive knowledge of working with both the public and private sectors on sustainable mixed use Brownfield developments, with many schemes benefiting from grant assistance from central government and the European Union.
Northern Trust actively seeks new industrial and office development opportunities throughout the UK for retention in the commercial property portfolio.

than 8 million sq ft, in c 3,200 units and extends to more than 200
individual/trade and office parks, with the largest industrial
estate being 415,000 sq ft, and the largest office park 85,000
sq ft.
Northern Trust are long term property investors, rather than developer/traders of assets, and take long term views on maximising returns through the provision of secure, well maintained employment assets.

The land
regeneration Department manage the Company's 5,000 acre land
portfolio consisting of both brownfield and strategic Greenfield
sites.
The Department’s role is to promote and develop land opportunities through the planning system. The team’s particular expertise is its focus on driving projects.
Operating throughout England, Scotland and Wales, the experienced 85 strong team; work with landowners, developers, local authorities, communities and other key stakeholders in the promotion and delivery of large scale development projects. Working across national boundaries the team is familiar with the English, Welsh and Scottish planning systems.
