Plans for a new mixed-use community at the former Sugar Beet Plant at Allscott received the backing of local residents this week.
Taking part in a BBC Radio Shropshire debate earlier this week, leading members of Allscott Sports & Social Club and Allscott Bowling Club backed the scheme, which would deliver:
Peter Starling, Chairman of the Allscott Sport and Social Club said,
“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to expand our membership and provide much needed new sports facilities for Allscott.
“The promised 99 year lease will secure the future of our club and give people of all ages in our community access to a wide range of sporting facilities close to home.
“The Sugar Beet Site redevelopment proposals will strengthen Allscott as a village through providing much needed affordable homes for young families, a new primary school, health centre, shops and open space. We hope the council recognises the benefits at stake for our local community.”
Phil Craggs, Chairman of the Bowling Club at Allscott also welcomed the news,
“The redevelopment plans and new facilities will be invaluable for the local community and make Allscott an attractive place to live for many years to come.
“It will also finally address the road problems in the area. With a 30 mph speed limit in place and improved road infrastructure, it will become a much safer environment for drivers and pedestrians.
“I welcome the addition of affordable houses in the area, property prices are far too high for people hoping to make their first step onto the property ladder.”
A decision on the submitted plans are expected in Spring 2014.
