HISTORY
- An 80 year old mill converted to retail commercial units in 1980's.
- The building is in a poor state of repair and refurbishment is commercially unviable.
APPROACH
- An improved scheme to enhance the retail offer, incorporate a larger grocery store and modern facilities for independent retailers is required.
- The retail development would not be viable without cross subsidy from approximately 40 new houses at rear of new retail scheme.
- A full community engagement has resulted in significant amendments to layout and design.
STATUS
- The planning application was recommended for approval by Planning Officers but the planning committee voted narrowly to refuse it. An appeal has been lodged and will be heard by an independent Inspector in the New Year.
